Pay your toll at motorway speeds
The NZ Transport Agency is reminding motorists they can use the Northern Gateway Toll Road on SH1 north of Auckland without having to stop to pay.
'One of the features of the road is that it is fully electronic and designed so that people can drive it at motorway speeds without having to interrupt their journey, ' said Wayne McDonald, the NZTA's regional director for Auckland/Northland.
Regular users can open an account and casual users can make one-off payments before their journeys, or up to three days after it. Payments can be made on-line at www.tollroad.govt.nz or by using freephone 0800 40 20 20.
Motorists also have the option of pulling over and stopping to use payment kiosks situated at both approaches to the toll road.
Tolls for each trip on the 7.5km stretch of motorway between Orewa and Puhoi are set at $2 for cars and light vehicles, and $4 for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes. The toll for motorcycles is zero, and caravans and trailers are free.
The NZTA reports that traffic is flowing freely in both directions on the toll road, the first day when motorists have to pay tolls.
If people do not want to use the toll road, they have the option of two free alternatives: one is the coastal route from between Puhoi, Waiwera and Orewa; the other is SH16 between Wellsford and Auckland.
