Jayride Nationwide Carpool Challenge Succeeds, Proves Sharing Rides Easy and Practical
Auckland, New Zealand, 09/02/09 – Jayride.co.nz carpool challenge from Auckland to Queenstown is a success. New Zealand’s biggest nationwide online ride-sharing service, Jayride, successfully carpooled from Auckland to Queenstown arriving 6th February. Jayride has proven that ride-sharing is a practical and easy way to save money and combat climate change.
Rod Bishop, cofounder of Jayride took a compact Ace Rental Car from Auckland to Queenstown, arriving in time for Waitangi weekend. Traveling via iconic New Zealand destinations, he picked up carpoolers for the entire trip to illustrate how easy it is to share transport and reduce costs and carbon emissions.
“Finding passengers was so easy we had to turn them down – our compact Ace was simply too full,” says Rod, cofounder of Jayride, “The best result was the enthusiasm shown for Jayride by the travelers and professionals we met ... Everyone loved the idea and offered help where they could.”
By sharing seats in a vehicle when driving, drivers can split their expenses to make travel cheaper. More people in a car also means less vehicle emissions per capita, making driving greener.
“The success of the Jayride Rideshare Challenge shows that not only is ridesharing possible, it’s easy. Anyone can do it and benefit from it, with very little work at all.”
Additionally, the trip aimed to remind kiwis of the great destinations on their doorstep. In tight financial times domestic travel is a cost- saving alternative to overseas holidays, especially when New Zealand’s greatest destinations are now cheaper than ever to reach with Jayride.
The Jayride Rideshare Challenge was sponsored by Ace Rental Cars, a member of Greenfleet New Zealand committed to promoting sustainable transport. The Jayride Challenge car was a compact Ace rental car modified with an Eco-Tube conversion to reduce its carbon emissions.
