ACP Magazines Increases Dominance of Mass Women’s Market

ACP Magazines continues its dominance in the Mass Women’s magazine category with a strong performance from The Australian Women’s Weekly and Next.

Both The Australian Women’s Weekly and Next recorded healthy increases in the latest Nielsen National Readership Survey. The Australian Women’s Weekly now reaches 632,000 readers every month, an increase of 1% or 5,000 readers over the same period the previous year. Next increased its monthly readership by 3% to 368,000, an increase of 9,000 readers year on year.

At the same time the latest Audited Bureau of Circulation results show that The Australian Women’s Weekly continues to be the highest circulating monthly women’s magazine with 73,739 copies per average issue. Next follows with a monthly audited circulation of 54,804.

Both magazines increased their leadership of the market ahead of the Fairfax-published NZ House & Garden. The Australian Women’s Weekly outsells NZ House & Garden by 27,923 copies per average issue (an increase of 6,295 compared to the same period last year). Next now out sells NZ House & Garden by 9,277 copies per issue (increasing the gap by 7,877 compared to the same period last year)

ACP Magazines’ two flagship monthly titles The Australian Women’s Weekly and Next sold more than 1.5 million copies in the past year, reaching well over half of the New Zealand female population (54% or 1 million)*.

“Despite a tough trading environment both magazines have gone from strength to strength under the editorial leadership of two of New Zealand’s most talented editors,” said ACP Magazines’ Group Publisher Debra Millar. “After a year in the editor’s chair Leonie Barlow has really made her mark on The Australian Women’s Weekly and Next Editor Brenda Ward continues to connect with the hearts and minds of New Zealand women.

• The Australian Women’s Weekly is the most read women’s monthly magazine with 632,000 readers – 59,000 readers more than NZ House & Garden. • The Australian Women’s Weekly has an audited monthly circulation of 73,739 – 24,508 copies more than NZ House & Garden.

Next • Next has maintained a stable circulation year on year with just a 1.4% decline to 54,804. At the same time Next has increased the gap in its paid sales over NZ House & Garden to 7,877.

• 368,000 New Zealanders read Next every month, an increase of 2.5% of the same period the previous year. During the same period the readership of NZ House & Garden declined by 8.8%, or by minus 55,000 readers.
