New income could help retain skilled staff
The recent announcement of a $4.3 injection into the Manawatu/Taranaki Wairarapa regions by Housing New Zealand for renovation work will be a boost to local trades employers according to regional labour market strategist Hilary Humphrey.
“There is more than a million dollars of work coming into our region soon,” Mrs Humphrey said.
“That means employers could access an additional income stream and it’s that regular workflow that will enable them to retain their skilled staff.
“But employers must register their interest in getting a slice of this action.”
She said Housing New Zealand’s normal practice is to post publicly advertised tenders via the Government Electronic Tenders Service (GETS) accessed at www.gets.govt.nz. “Contractors can also register details with Housing New Zealand on its web site www.hnz.co.nz”
“In these quieter economic times this is another way for trades’ contractors to get connected with more income opportunities.”
