Environmental Law Specialists Launch New Legal Practice
North South Environmental Law, New Zealand’s only specialist environmental law practice located in both the South and North Islands, has opened its offices in Auckland and Queenstown.
Established by directors Katia Fraser and Robert Makgill, North South Environmental Law delivers specialist legal services for individual and corporate clients in the resource management, environmental law and local government areas.
Robert Makgill says, “We established North South Environmental Law to help our clients deal with the increasingly sophisticated laws that seek to manage our environment. Resource management procedures can be complex and, as such, we work with our clients to help simplify the legal process in order to achieve commercially practical results.
“We understand how local authorities operate and tailor our advice to their expectations. Likewise we understand commercial bottom lines and how a developer should work to satisfy both the expectations of local authorities and also the local community.”
Katia Fraser says, “Our approach is crafted to meet the specific needs of a client. We offer practical and cost effective business solutions that not only address immediate issues but also look towards the future to ensure that our advice will stand the test of time. Both Robert and I have worked across every aspect of resource management law, and we work with our clients throughout the planning and development processes to the project’s completion.
“Environmental law is an exciting and dynamic area in which to work. On a day to day basis we deal with a wide range of professionals including scientists, engineers, noise experts and planners.”
North South Environmental Law is located in Auckland and Queenstown. Affiliated with South Island law firm Berry & Co, North South Environmental Law is a member of NZ LAW Limited, an association of independent legal practices and has joined the New Zealand Green Building Council.
