Competitive Scheme for Metals Industry

Competitive Manufacturing Scheme for Metals Industry

Increasing competitiveness of our industry is now, more than ever, THE single most important requirement to secure future business and growth. Therefore it is imperative, as individual companies and together as an industry sector that we engage in this process and position ourselves ahead of the competition, not only locally but globally too. How do we go about it?

Applying 'Lean Manufacturing' principles is considered to be the most effective tool in the pursuance of competitive excellence, as demonstrated ably by world leader Toyota. However, despite Lean Manufacturing principles now being common knowledge around the world, its uptake in New Zealand’s manufacturing industry has been slow. This is largely due to the fact that it is seen as a training approach for individuals only, rather than an integrated company-wide approach.

HERA in association with Productivity Solutions is taking up the challenge of providing a new and unique integrated learning/implementation approach designed specifically for the metals engineering industry to pursue Lean Manufacturing. The participating organisations must commit to the lean methodologies by making time for their staff to learn in a suitable and effective training environment, and subsequently make improvements in their workplace with the on-site involvement of the coach, as well as each company's team assigned to the programme under the leadership of the CEO.

The programme has a combination of 'off-the job' and 'on-the job' learning, and the assessment is done based on the benefits the organisation receives, making it a unique way to gain nationally-accredited qualifications for the individual combined with measurable implementation benefits for the company. The programme runs for 18 to 24 months and is probably the most economical way to improve the bottom line of your business.
