Media Release

Samsung introduces Series 9 LCD TV with next generation backlight technology and LED local dimming

Samsung’s new Smartlighting™ brings the ultimate in viewing pleasure

Samsung has launched the first LCD TV in New Zealand with Smartlighting™ backlight technology. The premium Series 9 LCD TV features an LED screen and delivers one of the most stunning pictures ever seen on a mass market television.

Now available in-store, the head-turning Series 9 brings the latest advances in design and performance to the home entertainment experience. Not only does the LED Smartlighting™ technology enrich the viewing experience by automatically adjusting each LED’s brightness level, it can also reduce power consumption by about 15% compared to previous CCFL* models, through its intelligent energy-saving mode.

”With the introduction of LED local dimming and backlighting technology to the Series 9 LCD range, Samsung continues to push the boundaries of technology and sleek design,” said Emma Keen, Samsung’s head of sponsorship and corporate marketing.

The TV comes in a thinner and sleeker frame compared to previous models, boasting new premium black ‘Crystal Design’ bezel and matching glass base,” adds Ms Keen.

Sports fans, movie buffs and gamers will enjoy enhanced picture quality with the very best in full high definition. The Smartlighting™ technology, 1080p resolution and an unbeatable 2,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, ensures that blacks are blacker and colours brighter.

Beyond delivering superior picture performance with craftsman-like design, the Series 9 develops four key media solutions (Wiselink Pro, DLNA, InfoLive and Content Library) which demonstrate how Samsung is enabling viewers to enjoy a converged viewing experience. With easy-to-use, touch-of-a-button remote control access to programming, media files and other digital services, the Samsung Series 9 makes it so much easier to enjoy the best experience in digital entertainment without having to leave the comfort of the lounge.

WISELINK pro makes it possible for viewers to show their favourite pictures, music, videos and movies to their friends through USB 2.0 connections. Unique to Samsung, the video connectivity feature along with the other applications will allow the Series 9 to be the hub of any entertainment suite. Showcasing holiday pictures to the rest of the family is effortless as Samsung ensures that the latest technology is also easy to use.

Ms Keen adds that TV’s with the latest features are becoming more important. “We’ve seen research which indicates that currently people are looking to buy the latest TV’s, as they decide to spend more time at home, entertaining guests with either movie nights or hosting sporting fixtures. The Series 9 allows people to get the most out of these social occasions. Now that people are storing more and more media files on their PC hard drive, the Series 9 LCD makes it easy to access and enjoy their media library in the lounge with friends and family” says Ms Keen.

The Samsung Series 9 is available now in all leading consumer electronics suppliers and comes in 46” and 55” models. The RRPs for the TV’s are $6,499 and $8,999 respectively.
