New Farm Management Tool Helps Farmers Get Onto-It

A newly released ground-breaking technology called Onto-it is designed to take all the hard work out of monitoring farm performance and communicating information. Farmers wanting to monitor what's going right and wrong on their farm will benefit greatly from Onto-it. It makes information overload a thing of the past and provides an easy way to communicate with accountants, bankers and advisors.

The Onto-it Farm system provides key information about your farm, at your finger-tips, whenever you want it, and wherever you are. Onto-it creates business action points that the whole team can understand.

Steve Lane, CEO and founder of Onto-it says "Farmers and rural service providers have been crying out for something like this for years." At present people are going to extraordinary lengths to transfer information using technology not designed for this purpose. "The result is frustration and wasted time spent behind a computer or with your nose in a notebook and a pile of receipts" Says Steve "Onto-it will fix all that".

Onto-it makes monitoring farm performance easier than ever before through its dashboard display approach. Not only that but it makes information and data gathering easier through unique data collection technology. Add to that the ability to take that information and share it with financial and other service providers and you have a winning package.

The inspiration for Onto-it began way back in 1998 When Steve took over the family farm. He wanted a management tool that was simple yet powerful enough to let him take control of his farm's future profitability by knowing what policies were performing the best. He found nothing that would do the whole job. After being fortunate enough to secure ground breaking expertise development began four years ago. The prototype version was tested on farms and further refined until version 2 was perfected. "Its taken a lot of hard work but we now have something really special to offer NZ farmers" says Steve.

Simplicity

Onto-it enables farmers to build on their experience and intuition. The central focus is helping farmers to track productivity and margins to produce the greatest profit. It uses fundamental variables like feed and animal performance; kg's sold per hectare and cost of production per kg sold to provide a quick, simple and clear indication of where you stand so you can create business action points that the whole team can understand.

Greater value from equipment you already have

At the South Island and Mystery Creek Fieldays this year Onto-it will expose the newest features of the system. Onto-it's innovative new data-capture application allows users to record and transmit key actions and outcomes from anywhere on the farm using just a mobile phone. This is seamlessly connected to the entire Onto-it system providing better utilisation of other tools like weigh scales.

Networks outside the farm

The Onto-it system is also designed to integrate third party information that is vital to your decision making as a farmer. Simultaneously Onto-it can share information with whomever you want - such as your accountant.

Onto-it can be used across all types of farms

Software packages are generally relevant to one aspect of farming. Onto-it is different in that it ties them all together, answering a simple question "Am I doing better or not?" This makes it simple for dry-stock or dairy farmers to improve business regardless of the structure of their operation and what policies they use, making it relevant for large or small farms or any kind.

User Quotes

"Onto-it's allowed us to realize we weren't stocking quite right over winter, so we changed a few policies there so we've got more stock in the springtime and put the figures behind what we were thinking we needed to do. It made it a lot easier to make the decision." - Rob Lyons, Demeter Trust Farms

"It's probably saving me an hour a day from the way I was doing it." - Dave Millar, Enton Farms

"it gives me some key indicators and they give me a good idea of what's going on with my farm and with my business, so even if I'm away from home I've got that information with me at all times." - Bill Millar, Enton Farms

Quotes from Steve Lane

"Onto-it enables you to focus on the things you can control, while at the same time, having the big picture and putting everyone on the same page.. real time."
