Farmers care about responsible fertiliser use
6 April 2009
MEDIA RELEASE
Farmers do care about
responsible fertiliser use combined with precise
application, according to the Fertiliser Quality Council
(FQC).
The FQC has put on its website copies of DVD’s on the proper use of Fertmark fertilisers and Spreadmark accredited operators. There are also copies of lectures on responsible fertiliser use and application from experts such as Drs Ian Yule and Mike Hedley of Massey University. There are further downloads available on how to properly soil test and what to do about developing a robust nutrient management plan.
“These have been accessed an amazing 15,042 times,” FQC executive director Kevin Geddes said. “That means a huge percentage of farmers are up to date with the use of ethical and tested fertilisers and those operators who are Spreadmark accredited.
“It further shows how New Zealand farmers take fertiliser use and application very seriously. Downloads vary in length from 10 minutes to almost an hour so it does take a commitment on the farmers’ part.
“We will be continually updating our website ( www.fqc.co.nz ) to keep farmers fully informed on matters of fertiliser and its application.”
