Harvest Time in the Pohangina Valley

For Immediate Release

17 April 2009

Harvest Time in the Pohangina Valley

Harvesting of the 2009 vintage commenced at Easter for Pohangina Valley Estate. Half the crop has now been picked with just the Pinot Noir and Totara Reserve grapes to be harvested next week. “The weather has been perfect -” says Nick Dymock “ - cold nights and warm days have led to good ripening conditions.” The crop looks close to being bigger than last year’s when nearly 11 tonnes of grapes were processed. “The heavy cropping means only the best and ripest grapes are picked” said Dymock. A small team of about 15 locals help with the annual harvest.

Following harvest the vineyard will celebrate by launching its new 2008 white wines at Liquorland-Albert Street in Palmerston North. There will be a tasting of Pinot Gris, the Chardonnay, and the Pinot Gris/Chardonnay Blend at the retail outlet on 24 April from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. The vineyard produces a limited amount of Chardonnay and the Pinot Gris/Chardonnay Blend. Previous vintages have proved popular and quickly sold out. According to the vineyard owners, the Chardonnay is particularly fine – light and refined, an easy wine to enjoy with food or on its own.
