Event Planners’ Paradise at Convene Auckland

NEWS RELEASE

Event Planners’ Paradise at Convene Auckland

Auckland 30 April 2009– Despite the gloom pervading the industry, the number of visitors Crowne Plaza Auckland saw at the fourth annual Convene Auckland convention increased this year and the event doubled in size, spanning two floors of SkyCity’s convention centre for the first time.

“We had eight scheduled appointments, all of good quality, and got about five leads from the event,” says Hannah Callesen, Crowne Plaza Auckland Meetings Director. “There were quite a few browsers – I think they were perhaps preparing for when the economy recovers and the conference budgets are lifted.”

The industry is supportive of the conference market and the number of exhibitors this year increased to meet the bigger-sized event, with more prizes and specials being offered as incentives to event planners.

Crowne Plaza Auckland is well-known for its conference facilities and can-do approach to the sometimes challenging events segment. Offering 10 meeting rooms over 3 floors, a versatile 14 configurations, with 4 offering natural light, delegates are able to move easily between rooms for breakout sessions, dining in the restaurant and then relaxing in the bar.

“People are still conferencing but are shopping around for the best deal or spending less on the extras – they might choose the chicken entrée over the Wagyu beef – but they are still putting on events and are looking locally rather than nationally or internationally,” says Ms Callesen.

Convene Aucklandis an annual expo exhibiting the best that the Aucklandevents industry has to offer, creating an informative and upbeat exhibition for the corporate events market.
