New Waterview Option Better for New Zealand Contractors
Roading New Zealand Chief Executive Chris Olsen welcomes the New Zealand Transport Agency’s announcement today of the new $1.4 billion preferred Waterview connection route.
Mr Olsen says that not only is the new route more affordable than the previous $2.77 billion proposal, it is also good for New Zealand contracting companies.
The previous proposal required significant international expertise for the twin tunnel construction while the revised option can mostly be handled by the New Zealand contracting industry with minimal overseas input.
He congratulates the New Zealand Transport Agency and Government on providing the industry with funding certainty through their decision.
“This country’s roading contractors are ready and able to build this Waterview project,” Mr Olsen says.
The project is the final link in the Auckland Western Ring Route. Once completed it is expected to provide significant congestion relief to Auckland motorists.
