Viaduct launches outage-free eftpos

Media Release

Viaduct launches outage-free eftpos

New Zealand’s leading eftpos company Viaduct has good news for retailers who watched custom walk out the door during last week’s eftpos outage.

It’s called EOV and it’s the new eftpos software that allows businesses to continue to trade as per normal even when the telecommunications system goes down.

Viaduct Director Mark Unwin says last Friday’s outage, which saw Auckland and Northland businesses without eftpos for two hours, was something the company’s clients could now guard against.

“EOV or Electronic Offline Vouchers is the latest version of eftpos software and those running this technology could have traded their way through last week’s outage and any that occur in the future,” he says.

EOV is available on two brands of Viaduct’s terminals and with merchants having to upgrade their terminals to meet new specifications coming into force in June 2011, it is a good time to ensure their terminal includes EOV software.  The terms on EOV are set out by the merchant’s bank.

“The uncertainty surrounding network upgrades also serves as a good reason for businesses to upgrade their eftpos terminals to the kind of technology that electronically stores transactions until the network comes back online,” he says.

Mark Unwin says network outages no longer need to be the bane of a retailer’s life – EOV can give retailers peace of mind.
