Club Med Cherating Beach’s Neighbours Number 1

News Release
Turtle Beach

Club Med Cherating Beach’s Neighbours Voted Number One

Auckland, 11 June 2009 – Director of Tourism Malaysia Sydney, Shahrin Mokhtar declared Club Med Cherating Beach’s reptilian neighbours at the nearby Turtle Sanctuary as one of Malaysia top experiences when he was in New Zealand recently.

“At Club Med we pride ourselves on our guests being able to have a holiday of a lifetime at our villages as well experiencing local culture and heritage, and in this case, they can also step next door to one of Malaysia’s top attractions — and it’s all included in the price,” says Kaarin Gaukrodger, Club Med Marketing Manager New Zealand.

Club Med Cherating Beach is an expansive resort nestled in the rainforest on the edge of the South China Sea with three beautiful white sand beaches. The resort offers two exquisite restaurants, along with an array of activities from sailing, archery, tennis, cooking lessons, golf, flying trapeze and of course — turtle watching!

Cherating is one of the very few remaining spots in Malaysia where green turtles come ashore. The 4km beach fronting Club Med Cherating Beach and the nearby Turtle Sanctuary is protected by the Fisheries Department to conserve turtles.

In total, there are seven species of marine turtles in the world and four of these species land and lay their eggs on Malaysian Beaches. They are the Leatherback Turtle, Green Turtle, Hawksbill Turtle and Olive Ridley Turtle.
The turtles land here all year round and females come ashore at night to lay eggs from April to August. The Sanctuary ensures the survival of these magnificent turtles. To see them, arrange with the resort staff who’ll alert you when the turtles come ashore.
