Knit World & Pregnancy Help Keeping Babies Warm

Knit World & Pregnancy Help Inc. Keeping Babies Warm This Winter

Knit World stores, throughout New Zealand, have been involved for many months in a campaign to get their knitting customers clicking their knitting needles for a good cause. The outstanding result is, over 4000 singlets, beanies and booties will be donated to Pregnancy Help for distributing to babies through our 9 regional branches in New Zealand.

Pregnancy Help is a national organisation providing information, advice and practical assistance. It considers that the provision of woollen garments to babies is an important part of their free services. One of Pregnancy Help’s visions is to see that all babies have the best start possible with warm clothing and bedding, with which to begin their lives.

Knit World each year chooses a charity to benefit from the efforts of their kind hearted customers. All of their stores have been encouraging customers to support Pregnancy Help, by knitting garments for babies.

Pregnancy Help’s National Co-ordinator Sharyn Crawford said “We are grateful to receive the generous support from Knit World. This type of support assists us in our efforts to promote infant health and wellbeing. With winter now upon us, the knitted items will be in huge demand”. As well as being warm, wool has other benefits for being the fibre of choice for babies. It allows temperature control, is hypoallergenic, naturally fire resistance and is supporting and soothing to the baby. aving HH

Pregnancy Help has been offering its free services for over 30 years. Annually it assists thousands of pregnant women and their families, by providing support where required, and practical assistance in the form of clothing, nappies, bassinets, bedding and other nursery items. “Each year we face the same challenges as many other community based organisations, to find the funding and resources including volunteers to run our services. We strive to find innovative ideas, to ensure that we have enough items to provide to families. We consider Knit World to not only be New Zealand’s leading knitting specialists, but also a leader in fostering a “giving” culture in our country”, Mrs Crawford said.
