3 July 2009: Simpson
Grierson, New Zealand's largest law firm, features on a
number of the just released Thomson Reuters M&A Legal
Advisory tables for the second quarter of
2009.
Simpson Grierson Chairman Kevin Jaffe said
"the firm is pleased with the mid-year rankings, given the
tough market conditions at present, and we look forward to
building on our position in the latter half of this
year."
Asian M&A transactions fell by 48.2% in the
first half of the year, from an all-time, first half volume
high in 2008. However, encouragingly, the second quarter
showed an 83.1% increase in activity from the first
quarter, in sync with the minor improvement of Asian stock
markets. On the Japanese deal tables, M&A activity decreased
by 35.6% compared to the same period last
year.
Simpson Grierson tied at first place with
Australian law firms Blake Dawson and Mallesons Stephen
Jacques for consumer staples on the 'Japanese Involvement
Advisors by Target Industry' table. No other New Zealand law
firms were mentioned.
The firm tied again in 8th
place with Mallesons Stephen Jacques on the 'Any Japanese
Involvement Announced' table. Again, no other New Zealand
law firms were mentioned.
On the Asia Pacific Deals
tables, Simpson Grierson was the only New Zealand law firm
ranked on the 'Any Australia or New Zealand Involvement
Announced' table, at 11th place.
