Simply Squeezed Responds To Commission’s Findings

Simply Squeezed Responds To Commerce Commission’s Findings

17 July 2009

Simply Squeezed today said it accepted the outcome of the Commerce Commission inquiry into its advertising and labelling.

The inquiry, that took more than a year, had been costly but the company was ready to move on and relevant changes that reflected the Commerce Commission’s concerns were being made.

Simply Squeezed CEO, Steve Brownlie, said that: “As an established and successful company we pride ourselves on delivering to our customers the best tasting chilled juices. We take all reasonable steps to ensure that we are compliant with all relevant laws.

“Our strong local links with Hawke’s Bay, where we source as much of our product as we can, set us apart from many of our competitors and we are proud of this fact. It has been a key to our success.”

Frucor, that last week announced its intention to acquire Simply Squeezed, intends keeping Simply Squeezed based in the Hawke’s Bay. In a recent statement Frucor said: “The purchase will see Simply Squeezed enter the Frucor fold with minimal changes for staff, orchadists who supply fruit, and distributors. Simply Squeezed will remain based in the Hawke’s Bay region close to where it sources most of its oranges.”

Frucor also said that Simply Squeezed was a “great success story” and had “demonstrated strong growth and consistent profitability for many years despite aggressive competition”.

Mr Brownlie also noted that it had kept Frucor fully abreast of the discussions with the Commerce Commission. The sale to Frucor is not affected by the outcome of the investigation.
