Businesses Urged To Embrace Cold And Help Nz’s Youth

As organisations around the country feel the icy blast of the global recession, business leaders are being urged to literally embrace the cold by jumping into the chilly waters of Mission Bay.

Organisers of the inaugural ‘Winter JOLT’ are encouraging Auckland’s business community to brave the elements not only in a show of solidarity during tough economic times but also in support of the Foundation for Youth Development (FYD).

Co-founder of the JOLT Challenge – a critically acclaimed book and training programme on self intelligence – Wade Jackson, said the Winter JOLT dip at Mission Bay would involve business leaders and their staff entering the water wearing work attire.

“JOLT Challenge and FYD have joined forces to challenge business leaders to take action in these tough times and be positive role models for our future leaders.

“The Winter JOLT is a fun way for leaders in the business community to demonstrate that famous Kiwi spirit of ‘giving it a go’ while raising funds for an excellent cause,” Wade said.

“A tiered fundraising system is in place which will result in bosses wearing fewer items of clothing in the water, if staff can raise enough funds.

“Employees can also join their boss in the water by making a donation on the day to the Foundation for Youth Development.”

Mountaineer and co-founder of the Foundation for Youth Development, Graeme Dingle, said the organisation had teamed up with JOLT Challenge to kick start what is hoped to be an annual fundraising event for the Foundation.

“The JOLT Challenge programme is all about fostering a positive attitude amongst the business community,” he said.

“The Foundation has a similar goal but the focus of its programmes are on young New Zealanders.”

The Winter JOLT takes place on Friday 21st August at 8 a.m. at Mission Bay. Companies can register to take part by visiting www.fyd.org.nz before 18 August. Every business that registers to participate in the Winter JOLT receives a free JOLT Challenge book.

Funds raised from the Winter JOLT will be used by the Foundation for Youth Development to further its programmes. The Foundation currently helps approximately 18,000 young New Zealanders each year via its, Kiwi Can, Stars and Project K and youth offender programmes.
