David successful in taking on the Goliath of job sites

Online job board newcomer CVB has fast become a favourite site for job seekers in New Zealand.

Wellington-based CVB was named as one of three finalists in the best employment site section of the People’s Choice NetGuideWeb Awards 2009. The other two were eventual winner Seek and Trademe, two of the largest websites in Australasia.

The news came as a surprise to CVB marketing manager Scott Jackson, who was rapt job seekers had recognised CVB as one of their favourite sites.

“We are delighted with our success, particularly in people’s choice award in which more than 130,000 people voted,” he says.

“Being newcomers to the online employment scene, the results have surprised us and probably our sceptics too, to be up there with the big guys is a huge achievement for us.

“To have grown from a small job site that started just as an idea only a year-and-a-half ago to being recognised as one of the top three job sites in New Zealand is simply amazing.”

The job site specifically targets the gen-Y market, professionals with a particular focus on accounting and IT recruitment, but caters for all sections of the market.

It was built on a desire to provide a new medium for job hunters that is smart, well monitored and, most importantly, with the job seeker in mind.

“We have been working hard to make CVB the best site in New Zealand for all things career-related,” says Mr Jackson.

“We want to become New Zealand’s career site and being recognised like this goes a long way to show us we are on the right path,” says Mr Jackson.

“We don’t want to simply be another online job board, we are doing our best to come up with new and innovative tools to actually help seekers into employment.”

Since CVB was set up it has introduced a number of new tools, including vacancies text to job hunters’ mobile phones and a website tailored to suit the iPhone.

These features are in keeping with the company’s promise that it is “the fastest way to find jobs”.

“Our mission is to offer job seekers and employers world-leading technology to speed up the recruitment process,” says Mr Jackson.

He believes it is this kind of service, as well as striving to track down jobs from around the country that differ from other job site postings, that helped CVB to become a finalist for the best job site.
