Auckland-Queenstown Added To Pacific Blue’s Domestic Network

Friday 31 July 2009: Low fare airline Pacific Blue today announced it was adding a new destination to its New Zealand domestic network, with weekend flights from Auckland to Queenstown scheduled to begin in September.

Queenstown will be the airline’s fifth New Zealand domestic port. Pacific Blue has been flying between the three main centres of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch since November 2007, and added domestic Dunedin services in July 2008.

Return flights from Auckland to Queenstown will be offered year round on Saturdays and Sundays with the first flights due to begin on Saturday 19 September 2009.

Fares are on sale from today, with a special one-way internet launch offer of $69.95*. Regular internet one-way lead-in fares will start from $89.95*.
Pacific Blue’s General Manager Commercial, Adrian Hamilton-Manns, said the addition of a domestic Queenstown service made sense as the airline was already in the process of setting up at Queenstown International Airport for twice-weekly flights to Sydney, scheduled to begin in the first week of September.
“It’s a considerable investment to set up at any new airport so once we made the decision to begin international flights to Queenstown we also looked at options for a domestic service,” he said.

“We know Aucklanders enjoy visiting the stunning Queenstown Lakes District and we believe the weekend domestic direct flights, which will start just in time for some spring skiing, will be well supported.”

Pacific Blue is beginning a range of new routes in September including direct flights from Hamilton to Sydney and Brisbane, flights from Dunedin to Brisbane, and a new service from Wellington to Sydney.

* All fares are subject to availability and one-way on the net – $15 more by phone.
