Lifetime Achiever Recognised At Events Industry Awards

Events industry stalwart Arthur Klap was recognised by the New Zealand Association of Event Professionals (NZAEP) at the Event Industry Awards Dinner on Thursday 6 August with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Arthur has an extensive background in event management, having organised more than 500 events over 30 years. These include international events such as the ITU Triathlon World Championships in 1994 and 2003, the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup 1997, the ISF Snowboard Junior World Championships, the ITU Aquathlon World Championships 2003 and the WMRA World Mountain Running Trophy 2005.

Arthur has also organised other events as varied as the Wellington Wind Festival, outdoor concerts and underground skateboard tours. Director of Sports Impact Ltd, Arthur is currently involved in the organisation of the 100% Pure New Zealand Winter Games in Otago.

The largest winter sports event outside of the Winter Olympics, the 100% Pure New Zealand Winter Games is a unique winter sports competition that provides the world’s elite winter sports athletes with the ultimate testing ground where they can experiment and explore performance limits against world class competition.

No stranger to receiving accolades for his work, Arthur received the Insignia of a Member of the NZ Order of Merit for services to sport and recreation in 2008.

NZAEP Chair Rae Finlay presented Arthur with the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award. “Arthur was involved with the establishment of Triathlon NZ, was the founding president of the Multisport Association and is currently Chairman of BikeNZ. Arthur has also sat on the Board of the NZAEP for a number of years, he is dedicated and passionate about the events industry in New Zealand and a worthy recipient of the award” added Finlay.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was introduced to recognise individuals for truly outstanding contribution to the events industry in New Zealand.

Since 2005 the NZAEP has been the industry association for event professionals in New Zealand, providing leadership for the industry through advocacy, education and accreditation. The founding principle of the NZAEP is to bring professionals together to focus on the industry as a whole and to act as a voice for that industry and its members.
