Court Decision Grants Consents

Media release

Court Decision Grants Consents

17 August 2009 – Holcim (New Zealand) Ltd has today been notified of the Environment Court decision granting all consents for its proposed cement plant at Weston.

The consents have been granted with a number of associated conditions.

“Obviously we are pleased to have a positive decision from the Court,” said Holcim Capital Projects Manager, Ken Cowie. “The decision document is substantial and we now need to review it in depth and consider the implications. We also need to allow for the period of 15 working days in which appeals to the High Court can be lodged.”

“Having the Environment Court decision is a significant step in the process towards ensuring long term cement supply for New Zealand, however there are still a lot of steps to work through before we get to the point where we would put a final proposal to our parent company, Holcim Ltd.

“We understand that people will now look to us for an answer on whether the plant will go ahead or not,” Ken Cowie said. “While we acknowledge that ongoing uncertainty is difficult, this is a very significant business decision and one which needs to be made with due care. We would not expect to go to Holcim Ltd for a decision before late next year.”
