Cadbury NZ doing the right thing
The Salvation Army applauds Cadbury New Zealand’s move towards Fairtrade certification for its Cadbury Dairy Milk products.
Salvation Army justice advocate Chris Frazer says for a long time there have been concerns regarding the use of trafficked children on some cocoa plantations.
“A major corporate’s pledge to help reduce this practice is a victory for the thousands who toil long hours for little or no payment,” Ms Frazer says.
The Salvation Army’s work in caring for impoverished families in the developing world has bought it face-to-face with human trafficking, she says. The Salvation Army has also seen the social and environmental benefits that come from ethical employment and trading initiatives.
The Army will co-host the New Zealand’s first major forum on human trafficking in the Pacific in Wellington next week.
