Classic auction features a slice of racing history

The Audi Quattro Turbo is a classic car that holds a special place in racing history, after all, the model was raced by French driver Michele Mouton who was the first female to win the World Rally Championships in 1981.This weekend, New Zealand car lovers get the chance to buy a 1984 model at Turners’ Classic Car Auction in Penrose

This remarkably original Audi is a turbo four wheel drive, five-speed manual with leather upholstery. It has 130,000 miles on the clock, and is expected to sell for about $25,000.

Paul Callister from Turners says it is remarkable to find a car with a legendary history in such original condition and he is expecting a crowd of 200 car enthusiasts to attend the auction to bid for the Audi and 30 other classic car lots.

“The Quattro has obviously been well cared for,” he says. “It has over $35,000 in receipts for engine reconditioning and the head has been gas flowed to improve turbo performance”.

The Classic Car Auction also features a convertible 1963 MG B Roadster in excellent condition which has been maintained by its current owners of more than two decades. With the owners moving overseas, the car is expected to sell for $10,000.

American car enthusiasts have a trio of classics to choose from with a 1961 Pontiac Laurentian, 1979 Pontiac Firebird F and a 1964 Cadillac Series 62.

For those with a leaning towards European models, a stunning left hand drive 1955 Jaguar XK 140 imported from Germany will appeal. Finished in red with black leather and real wood grain interior this car is warranted, registered and finished so is expected to sell for more than $50,000.
