Selling the shirt off your back

Selling the shirt off your back
If you’ve ever wanted to venture into online auction clothing selling, but never knew how, then free training being offered by Taradale woman Leigh Spencer might just be the ticket to get you started.
Leigh, who has a community funding and tutoring background, recently set up an clothing and accessories auction website specifically to help schools and community groups fundraise, or for individuals who need some extra cash.
And now that the site is up and running she’s offering free training in Hawke’s Bay to help people learn how to use the site.
“Several people who’ve approached me are keen to try the site, but were worried they didn’t know anything (or enough) about computers let alone online auctioning. So I’ve devised a two hour training session to teach them the ropes and get them started,” she said.
Ms Spencer is also working with several Hawke’s Bay schools that are getting parents to resell collected clothing items for them for a share of the sale proceeds.
“It’s a great way
for the school to fundraise and for the parent to earn extra
income.”
The great thing is that there is no shortage
of clothing and there are plenty of people within your
community who don't want to sell clothing themselves, but
who are happy to donate items to your group for your
fundraising, she says.
“People are a lot more familiar
with the online trading environment thanks to Trade Me and
E-Bay, but the difference with a specialised clothing site
is that clothing is no risk, easy to transport, handle and
store.
“This makes it an ideal specialty item for
fundraising groups to auction for profit. You’re not
selling something like a toaster that might blow up and all
the liability issues surrounding that.”
In addition to
an interface that makes listing items easy, Daizychain
provides systems support for those groups who utilise the
site. This is provided through one-on-one hand-holding as
well as via a dedicated web resource, providing step-by-step
assistance, resources, tips, FAQs, video help files and
troubleshooting advice for both newbies and experienced
online traders alike.
“The whole thing has been set up
to make it easy, both from a listing and a time perspective.
And we know there are lots of people who will be very
pleased with what they will achieve through the
site.”
