Wintec Growth Leads To New International Management Position
The growth of Wintec's internationalisation
activities has resulted in the development of a new senior
management position for the institute.
Pamela Bird takes up the role of International Centre Manager, who will be responsible for all on-shore delivery for the institute's growing international student numbers. Ms Bird joins Wintec from the University of Waikato Management School.
Wintec CE Mark Flowers said a number of exciting offshore initiatives were coming to fruition after several years of developmental work to diversify its partnership countries and the products Wintec delivers.
"Our brand positioning has secured Wintec in specific international markets as the provider of choice in New Zealand," he said. "Knowledge transfer operations in Saudi and Malaysia are now operational as both countries seek to develop their own highly skilled tertiary training expertise, facilities and curriculum. Wintec has gained a reputation for excellence in this area and we have worked very hard to build strong relationships of trust." He said the institute aimed to have an international student base of  15% as it grows its reputation as an international institute of technology.
In 2006 Wintec worked with the Chinese Government to help develop the teaching curriculum for the country's leading midwifery teaching hospital, Peking No 3. Mr Flowers said the institute had significant academic and management expertise across a range of specialist curriculum areas which allowed it to undertake such offshore projects and was excited now to be working with the Kingdoms of Arabia and Malaysia to build quality teaching institutes there. He said continuing management activities with offshore partners, including China and India, combined with a range of commercial initiative called for a dedicated focus offshore, while still providing a high level of quality provision for the institute's international students on its Hamilton campuses.
