Society For Risk Management Appoints Director

MEDIA RELEASE

4 September 2009

NZ Society For Risk Management Appoints Executive Director

Mike Wood, chairman of the New Zealand Society for Risk Management, today announced the appointment of Steve Vaughan as Executive Director of the Society. ``I am delighted to make this announcement as part of taking the Society forward in these challenging times,’’ said Wood. ``This appointment is particularly timely with the release in the near future of the new international standard for risk management, ISO 31000’’.

New Zealand experts from the Society have played a key role in the development of the new standard which is closely based on a joint New Zealand and Australian Standard. This standard, AS/NZS 4360: Risk Management is widely used internationally.

The new Executive Director role will be focused on promoting the Society’s objectives, and advocating on behalf of the Society in forums that are engaged in some aspect of the management of risk.
Steve was part of the group that originally established the Society, and is a former deputy Chairman as well as having served as Editor of the Society’s electronic newsletter, RiskPost, and convener for one of the Society’s biennial conferences.

The New Zealand Society for Risk Management was established in 2000 to bring together all those involved in risk management irrespective of where they work or their original discipline. Its purpose is to improve the knowledge and practice of risk management in New Zealand. The Society has some 430 individual and corporate members spread across organisations in most industry sectors, local and central government, and academia.
