Pacific Blue to touch down
Queenstown celebrates the arrival of Pacific Blue’s first trans-Tasman flight into its airport on Saturday (September 5).
Queenstown Airport will welcome the ZQN DJ88 flight from Sydney with a water canon arc when it arrives at 3.35pm at the terminal.
Through the introduction of these flights, Pacific Blue, will provide visitors with cheaper access to Queenstown’s wealth of year-round activities, particularly encouraging Australian tourists to return to the resort for a holiday.
Destination Queenstown Chief Executive Stephen Pahl said the Pacific Blue flights are an extremely positive boost to tourism in Queenstown within the ongoing challenging economic environment and a demonstration of the level of confidence the airline has in investing flight operations into our region.
“We are delighted to welcome Pacific Blue, and we wish them every success in growing their trans-Tasman operation into Queenstown Airport” said Mr Pahl.
“In this economic climate, competitive flights into the resort are exactly what many of our visitors need and are actively seeking within our primary generating market in Australia. The timing is right, and I additionally applaud the ongoing entrepreneurial efforts of the Queenstown Airport Corporation in working so hard in attracting new flight operations.”
Pacific Blue will operate a twice-weekly return trans-Tasman schedule into Queenstown on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and from September 19 will offer two domestic services into the resort from Auckland on Saturdays and Sundays.
Queenstown Airport Chief Executive Steve Sanderson said the arrival of another carrier on the trans-Tasman demonstrates the strength of Queenstown and the Lakes District Region.
“We certainly believe that the Airlines, New Zealand Government, various organisations, and local tourist operators can grow our share of the market,” said Mr Sanderson.
