Expectant wait for baby business

Media Release - 25th September 2009

Expectant wait for baby business as David Award Finalists Announced

Online baby business Belly Beyond has been named as a finalist in two categories of The David Awards 2009.

The David Awards recognise the unsung heroes in home and small businesses throughout New Zealand, whose tenacity, courage and ingenuity place them firmly at the forefront of entrepreneurship in this country.

Belly Beyond is named in The Most Outstanding Fledgling Business and The Most Inspired Use of Marketing category and co-founders Heidi Riley and Louisa Currie are thrilled to have their company feature twice.   “Our business is all about our customers and recognising their parenthood journey is such a special time of life” says Louisa. “We have put a lot of ourselves, our experience, and love of motherhood into the brand” adds Heidi.  “Now we have to wait like expectant parents to find out the results!”

Belly Beyond was launched on Mother’s Day last year and has grown enormously since then. What started out as an online store with gift packs for mothers – packed with the essentials as well as the treats - has bloomed into a busy online store with over 300 products.  >From sexy lingerie for pregnant mum- to-be’s, baby carriers, nappy bags and more, they have everything parents need at the click of a button.

They count a lot of the success of Belly Beyond to their embracing of social media to promote their website and products. Using Facebook, Twitter and blogging to inform their customers about what’s new, what’s on sale and what’s going on, they have built up a strong database already.

“The internet is a really important tool for mothers at home with small kids – it’s a great way of connecting with the outside world, communicating with other mums and building up that social network” says Louisa.   “We keep our website unique by being constantly on the look-out for new products just like our recent addition of stunning UV protective active wear for kids – a NZ exclusive which is set to make parents lives easier this summer”.
