NZers Hit the Bullseye with NZ Lotteries' New Game

Media Release
12 October 2009

New Zealanders Hit the Bullseye with NZ Lotteries’ New Game

New Zealand is making lottery history today with the launch of NZ Lotteries’ world-first lottery game, Bullseye, says NZ Lotteries’ Acting Chief Executive, Warren Salisbury

“We are very excited to present Bullseye to Kiwis, it’s a game of our own design so there is nothing like it anywhere else in the world.

“Tickets go on sale today, but the first draw will be on Monday 19 October. After that, the game will be drawn daily.

“Bullseye will only cost $2 to play, giving our players a low cost and fun lottery game option in the current environment. In another first for NZ Lotteries, there will be a bundled game option for multiple draws, with entry into a week of draws only costing $10.

“Bullseye is very simple to play – you simply pick any number between 000,000 and 999,999 and if your number is within a set range either side of the winning Bullseye number, you win – hit the Bullseye exactly and you win the top prize,” says Mr Salisbury.

First Division starts at $100,000 and will jackpot if it is not struck, with a maximum top prize of $400,000. There are also another five prize divisions so even if players don’t hit the Bullseye, there’s a good chance they’ll win another prize – though of course, the closer you are, the better it gets!

“As players are picking a number of up to six digits, we think birthdays will be a popular way for players to select their number. Though there’s always the lucky dip option for those who want to leave everything over to chance.

“This is the first game NZ Lotteries has introduced since Big Wednesday in October 2005.

“The chance of players winning a prize with Bullseye is much better than NZ Lotteries’ other big games - with odds of hitting the top prize of just 1 in 1 million (compared to Powerball’s 1 in 38 million and Lotto’s 1 in 3.8 million).

The game will be drawn daily from 19 October, with results available after 7pm online at www.mylotto.co.nz or from Lotto stores.

Key Facts
* Bullseye is a daily game, with a draw at just after 6pm daily (except Good Friday and Christmas Day) and results available from 7pm.

* The minimum entry is one number, which costs $2.

* Players who purchase a 7 or 14 draw multidraw will only pay for 5 or 10 draws respectively.

There are six prize divisions ranging from hitting the Bullseye to picking a number within 50,000 numbers either side of the winning Bullseye number.

* For the purposes of the game, the numbers are viewed as circular and number 000,000 is next to 999,999. For example, if the winning number was 000,000 then the winning prize range will be from 950,000 to 050,000.

* The odds of winning First Division are 1 in 1 million with overall odds of winning a prize of 1 in 10.

First Division starts at $100,000 and can jackpot through to $400,000. If First Division is not struck when the prize is $400,000 then it will be added to the next highest division where there are prizes.
