NZ inaugural ‘Grape Day’ being held in Hawke’s Bay
Grape growers from around the region and afar will be congregating in Hastings on Thursday (October 15) for the inaugural NZ Winegrowers ‘Grape Day’.
Themed as ‘Tough times lead to smart viticulture’, the free day-long workshop aims to present key aspects of the research programme funded by the national wine industry organisation.
“The purpose is to showcase the large amount of research that is conducted within the industry. This is the first of the workshop series that will be ongoing,” says Lyn Bevin, Executive Officer of Hawke’s Bay Winegrowers Inc.
Being held at Vidals in Hastings, the day commences at 9am with an introduction by NZWG Chief Executive, Philip Gregan. NZWG Chair Stuart Smith will conclude the day at 4.30pm.
Research presentations cover topics including yield components; alternative training systems and influences on yield; managing the yield – how it influences your decision; managing yields from a commercial perspective; shoot thinning; and mothballing your vineyard.
A South Island workshop was held in Blenheim on Tuesday 13 October.
