Malaysian FTA important for Wellington economy
The Free Trade Agreement
with Malaysia, our eighth largest export market, will be a
valuable addition to the suite of agreements already signed
according to the Wellington Regional Chamber of
Commerce.
“Malaysia is an increasingly important market for New Zealand exports and this agreement will further integrate New Zealand’s position in the region said Chamber Chief Executive Charles Finny.
The Malaysian agreement builds usefully on the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement and the signing has occurred as news comes that the ASEAN agreement will come into force on 1 January 2010 following recent discussion between ASEAN leaders.
“We are pleased that the Malaysian FTA includes services. This is an increasingly important sector for Wellington exporters particularly export educatio.
“I would like to congratulate Mr Groser and his officials for their hard work and successful outcome,” Mr Finny concluded.
