Angel Association appoints executive director
The Angel Association New Zealand has appointed Colin McKinnon as its new executive director. Mr McKinnon will take on the role in addition to his position as executive director of the New Zealand Private Equity and Venture Capital Association.
Angel Association chair Andrew Hamilton said Mr McKinnon has considerable understanding of the New Zealand private capital markets - from angel investing through to venture capital and larger private equity investment.
“This is an excellent opportunity for the angel, venture capital and private equity communities to be aligned and work collaboratively.
“As Angel Association executive director, Colin will oversee the continued growth in the angel sector, which is becoming an important asset class in the commercialisation of New Zealand innovations. “The Angel Association is implementing a national vision for the sector, and helping to raise the capability and knowledge of angel groups, many of which are relatively early new groups. Colin will lead this work.
“While the NZVCA and Angel Association roles are distinct, many of the regulatory issues facing angel groups are exactly the same as those facing venture capital and private equity firms. Colin’s new appointment ensures a collaborative relationship between the two organisations and will reduce duplication.”
