With purse strings easing, smart, forward-thinking companies will be looking to capitalise on the prospect of new opportunities. This means the labour market is about to heat up. And from the perspective of students, the timing couldn’t be better. The key then, is finding these opportunities and seizing them.

To do this the job hunting process has to be quick, simple and effective and this is where a new service, designed specifically for students, comes to the fore. It’s called StudentJobSpace and is a specific tool designed to the meet the needs of a specific group – students.

StudentJobSpace is a totally free online recruitment site for both employers and job hunters, delivering an interactive medium for employers wanting student labour and students looking to be employed.

StudentJobSpace has been launched to coincide with the end of the teritary year and is the brainchild of Academy Publishing Group. With three years’ experience in online recruitment via www.myjobspace.co.nz and 30 years in print publishing, the Group has significant knowledge in this area.

Managing Director Gary Collins believes the strength and attractiveness of StudentJobSpace is its simplicity. “It is easy for students and fast for employers,” he says. The service is free to both employers and student job hunters and will list positions ideally suited to students, providing employers with the opportunity to screen students themselves.

Unlike other student recruitment organisations currently operating in New Zealand, where students with little or no recruitment skills are running and managing these enterprises, StudentJobSpace will take out the middle man by directly linking employers with potential employees.

The beauty of StudentJobSpace is the employers have access 24/7 to the student applicants. Overnight or during the weekend they could find the right applicant and make contact directly. They don’t have to wait for “office open hours” to be connected to someone.

“StudentJobSpace is designed to target students and their needs, while making it easier for employers to find the right kind of help.”

Collins says the initiative is specifically designed to break down barriers for both employers wanting to list job vacancies, and students looking for long-term or lower-end cash jobs.

StudentJobSpace will also be the only organisation which targets the entire tertiary industry. Collins believes that by offering their service to the 19 polytechnics, 180 private institutions and seven universities, including Te Wananga O Aotearoa, StudentJobSpace will “promote equality”.
