TAB Open Betting Option For All Whites In South Africa

The TAB has reacted swiftly to New Zealand’s qualification for the World Cup in South Africa by releasing a book on the Number of Points the All Whites will accumulate in the Group Stage of the event.

The TAB’s head football bookie Gary Pearn said the game versus Bahrain was heavily supported in terms of betting & the 1-0 win was a ‘winner for all’ - “from our perspective, NZ qualifying for South Africa was imperative to continued high public and media interest, but at the same time we didn’t want to get too badly burnt”.

Pearn said the most popular options in terms of betting were the Correct Score & Half-Full Time Double options. “Punters seemed very keen to support the prospect of goals. Bahrain leading at half-time with NZ running over them in the second half & winning 4-1 would have been an absolute disaster”.

The favourite in the Number of Points option is 0 at $1.67 with 1 point seen as the next most likely prospect and currently paying $3.00. “Obviously we don’t know yet who NZ will face in the Group Stage, but it’s unlikely to be any tougher than the Brazil, Russia & Scotland combo that their ‘82 contemporaries faced” Pearn said. “I’d think any improvement on what Sumner’s men managed in Spain would be a huge filler for NZ football”.

NZ to win all three group games is currently seen as the least likely option and paying $750.00. NZ to win the World Cup is now paying $1000, down from $1750 available before Herbert, Fallon & the boys made the dream a reality.
