Tax Refund Could Be on the Cards for Christmas

MEDIA RELEASE: Tuesday 17 November 2009

Tax Refund Could Be on the Cards for Christmas

The latest National Wage and Salary Survey conducted by New Zealand’s four regional employer associations (Canterbury Employers’ Chamber of Commerce, EMA Northern, EMA Central and Otago Southland Employers’ Association) has found one in five jobs suffered pay cuts last year.

According to the survey, 22 per cent of the 215 job positions surveyed are being paid less this year than last year. With Christmas just around the corner, any financial windfall will be a bonus in the current economic climate.

“We have found more people than usual are owed tax refunds, owing to the
tax cuts in October last year,” says Cilla Hegarty, Managing Director of NZ Tax Refunds – New Zealand’s specialist online tax refund company.

“Based on the survey findings, there are going to be a lot more people in New Zealand struggling to make ends meet at Christmas. People have got nothing to lose by going online to find out if they are owed a refund and they might just find they’re in luck. Every last cent really helps at this time of year.”

NZ Tax Refunds is guaranteeing a 10-day payout (or no fee) for standard clients eligible for a tax refund.

“We pride ourselves on providing efficient and timely service for our thousands of clients around New Zealand and you could get your refund just in time for Christmas,” says Cilla Hegarty.

The 10-day guarantee applies to online applications at www.nztaxrefunds.co.nz . Clients must also provide their correct bank account details, their correct IRD number, and cannot be registered for family assistance or required by IRD to file a return (because of withholding tax, part year income, or other income).

“For people with straightforward tax situations, filing a return is as simple as visiting our website and entering their details. If they are due a tax refund, we guarantee it will be deposited into their account within 10 days, or no fee.”

“If we find a client is likely to face a tax payment, we simply do nothing. And we don’t charge them a fee, either.”

NZ Tax Refunds is a specialist online tax refund company with thousands of clients around New Zealand (www.nztaxrefunds.co.nz ).

“We have found between 85 and 90 per cent of our clients are due tax refunds for the 2009 year, which is a higher proportion than usual as a result of the mid-year tax cuts in October 2008.

“We have also found the average tax refund amount is higher than in previous years, between $300 and $400, also as a result of the midyear tax cuts.”

“We provide a no-risk service for clients. Our system assesses whether an individual is eligible for a tax refund and if so we apply on their behalf, and charge a modest fee up to 19.5 per cent of the refund,” concludes Cilla Hegarty.
