Gen-i launches cloud strategy and services for Australasia

AUCKLAND, New Zealand, 3 December 2009 – Gen-i today launched its cloud computing strategy with a portfolio of solutions for the Australasian market designed to ensure clients get the best out of their existing assets and new cloud opportunities.

The strategy supports Gen-i’s vision of becoming Australasia’s leading provider and integrator of ICT value added services in infrastructure over the next five years.

Gen-i also released details on its Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) portfolio of solutions that provide users with leveraged virtual servers, storage, networking, and desktops.

Gen-i’s cloud computing strategy delivers and integrates on premise and cloud services to provide end-to-end solutions that achieve business efficiency, flexibility, productivity, increased customer responsiveness and cost savings. Gen-i’s expertise lies in taking the complexity of the various ICT services and delivery models and tailoring a client-facing solution that is straightforward and easy to use.

Gen-i provides clients with fully integrated solutions built from the best global public cloud, local private cloud and on-site hybrid solutions. The complexity of the integration and security across all delivery models is a large part of the value delivered by Gen-i’s managed cloud services.

Cloud services delivered by Gen-i are managed in Australasia using the latest technologies. Supported by Gen-i’s world class infrastructure, these services are integrated with clients’ existing ICT infrastructures to provide the right mix of technology solutions for clients, backed up by dedicated local service.

Gen-i acts as integrator by leveraging its professional services business to advise clients on the solutions which best meet their business needs. Gen-i provides the full range of consultancy, design, development, implementation and management of cloud services.  Gen-i is also a service provider and leverages its managed data proposition to deliver cloud services, including servers, storage, desktop email and security.

Chris Quin, Gen-i Australasia CEO, says Gen-i is investing in existing services as well as adding new capabilities to increase the functionality of Gen-i’s  offerings, He explains it’s how this technology is enabled, managed and utilised that adds real business value to clients, which is where Gen-i comes in.

“IDC predicts that cloud computing will become a US$960 million market across Australia and New Zealand by 2013. Unlike global cloud players, Gen-i is absolutely dependent on New Zealand and Australia being successful in this area, which is why we are 100 per cent committed to getting it right first time, on time,” said Quin.

“We help clients move along the technology continuum at the speed and route that best suits their business needs, wherever they are starting with a DIY approach, outsourced or fully hosted service. We predict that around 25 per cent of new ICT services will be delivered via the cloud in the future, with the remaining 75 per cent continuing to be deployed either in-house or outsourced to providers, such as Gen-i.

“Of course, the complexity will still exist - and that’s exactly where our focus lies,” added Quin. “We advise on the best solutions, managing the complexity to provide a simple and integrated user experience. Our proven capability in integrating network delivered services with on-site infrastructure will ensure our clients get the best out of their existing assets and new cloud opportunities.”

Leanne Buer, Gen-i Head of Infrastructure and Business Applications, says Gen-i’s cloud solutions help deliver practical, measurable ways for New Zealand and Australian businesses to do more with less. She says there are four key reasons why clients are turning to Gen-i for their cloud services.

“Firstly, clients can count on us. Our cloud services are implemented, integrated and managed locally using the best technology available,” said Buer. “Secondly, we realise that what’s connecting our clients to the cloud is important. Our own world class infrastructure delivers the agility and efficiency of the cloud, without compromising on the quality and service clients should expect from a local ICT partner.

“Thirdly, we bring together the right mix of ICT solutions. Our proven capability in integrating network delivered services with onsite infrastructure ensures clients can leverage their existing assets and integrate new cloud solutions to achieve business productivity and agility.

“Last, but not least, we provide end to end value clients can trust,” Buer added. “We work with clients to ensure that all the components that make up their cloud solution provide excellent value. Importantly, we demonstrate how the end-to-end solution delivers real benefit for their business.”

The roll out of Gen-i’s new cloud services will be phased over the next twelve to eighteen months. Gen-i’s existing range of cloud-based services includes hosted security (Safecom) and productivity (Managed Mail) offerings.
