Summit-Quinphos backs Large Herds Conference theme

Summit-Quinphos is again backing the Large Herds Association annual conference as principal sponsor, fully supporting the conference’s main theme of environmental compliance.

The four-day event focuses on the growing need to be able to demonstrate environmental compliance to international buyers.

As a leading fertiliser and animal nutrition specialist, Summit-Quinphos shares the concerns that the dairy industry is currently seeing just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to future environmental compliance in international markets.

“All conscientious farmers are aware environmental compliance is a legal, financial and international issue,” suggests Summit-Quinphos general manager Willie Thomson, “and these will be discussed at the conference.

“Our chief scientist Dr Jamie Blennerhassett is one of the experts on the main panel discussing environmental compliance, and several international speakers have been confirmed.”

The registration packs have just been released for the conference, which is being held at Stadium Southland in Invercargill March 15-18 2010. More information on the conference is available at www.largeherds.co.nz

Confirmed speakers include Rt Hon Dame Jenny Shipley, George Baikie from the UK, Thomas Clinton from Ireland/Europe and Larry Vanderway from the USA.

Local mayor Tim Shadbolt, who will open the conference, says the occasion will be a big boost for the region both in terms of exposure and revenue.

“I’m told these conferences typically attract about 500 delegates, which is obviously a lot of people to accommodate and feed. But I’m also excited by the prospect that the conference includes farm tours that will showcase some of the best dairy farmers and farms in the region.

“Delegates will even tour the hugely popular Bill Richardson Truck Museum, and the event winds up with a good old Southland hoedown. We promise not to mention the Ranfurly Shield!”

The conference is open to all, with the registration fee including automatic membership of the Large Herds Association.
