Directdebit Helps Kiwis Control Their Finances

Directdebit.Co.Nz Helps Kiwis Take Control Of Their Finances In 2010

Avoid dishonour fees with directdebit.co.nz’s new alert service

With tight economic times still pervading, staying on top of your finances and avoiding unnecessary costs – like dishonour fees - is essential.

Directdebit.co.nz’s new alert service allows consumers to do just that, by alerting them only days before direct debit payments are due to go out of their accounts. Consumers can then make sure they have sufficient cash available, or discuss their payment with the Company to avoid the payment failing and a dishonour fee being slapped upon them.

Directdebit.co.nz founder Paul Latham says everybody tells you when a direct debit has failed but we want to help New Zealander consumers stay in control and reduce the incidence of this happening. Our alerts provide a useful reminder that a direct debit is due within days – not too far in advance, he says.

“You don’t want to pay a company too early and you don’t want to pay a company late. You ideally want to pay it on the due date and there is no better way to do that than direct debit” Mr Latham says.

“We applaud the moves made by the Banks during this difficult time to reduce the dishonour fees being charged to customers who have been caught out, but we would like to give Kiwi’s every chance not to be charged them in the first place”

To set up the free alerts, go to the directdebit.co.nz website, click on “Alerts” and join up to the easy dd service. It will then guide you through the set-up process.

Tip #1: Set direct debits up out of flexible accounts

Tip #2: Arrange for direct debits to be deducted at the beginning of pay periods not the end to guarantee success

Tip #3: Direct debits do not operate over the weekend, if your direct debit falls due on a Saturday or Sunday it will most likely be deducted the following Monday evening
