LENZ Equipment joins Compac Sorting Equipment

LENZ Equipment and Compac Sorting Equipment Join Forces

LENZ Equipment and Compac Sorting Equipment are pleased to announce the sale of LENZ to Compac.

LENZ are NZ’s specialists in kiwifruit handling, particularly in the area of bin tipping. They have operated in Te Puke for over 25 years, starting in Des Langdon’s garage, and now operating at their Jellicoe Street factory.

Over this time LENZ have gained a sound reputation for the quality of their equipment and have launched many new innovations, including last year’s development of a portable kiwifruit repacking machine. They currently employ over 20 staff and are the primary supplier of bin tipping and conveying equipment to NZ’s rapidly growing kiwifruit industry.

“LENZ and Compac have enjoyed a close working relationship for many years and in discussing how we could make this relationship more seamless, selling our business to Compac was an obvious way forward”, says Des Langdon, Founding Director.

“Our aim from this sale is to enhance kiwifruit handling from the orchard bin right through to the shipping carton and our two companies are ideally suited to achieve this”, continued Mr Langdon.

Compac Sorting Equipment was founded in 1984 by Mr Hamish Kennedy, Managing Director of the company. Compac is based in Auckland and has associated companies in 10 countries employing more than 240 staff.

Compac are now world leaders in fruit sorting with their equipment handling most types of produce in over 30 countries.

Compac’s systems, range from small single lane machines to large 40 lane sorters which can grade a wide range of produce from apples, citrus, avocados, stonefruit, kiwifruit, tomatoes, onion, potatoes, mangoes, capsicums and pomegranates. They sort by weight, size, shape, dimension, colour, density, external blemish, internal defect and brix/sugar levels.

In New Zealand Compac and LENZ share many of the same customers and regularly work together on new installations.

“A key strategy for Compac is to provide a full range of packhouse equipment for kiwifruit and for other produce. We are excited by the opportunity to welcome LENZ to the Compac group” says Bob Shaw General Manager.

LENZ, under its new ownership, will continue to operate in Te Puke. Compac has a vision of growth for LENZ which includes new product development and new market opportunities.
