Christchurch Hottest Holiday-Maker Destination

Christchurch Hottest Destination for Autumn Holiday-Makers

Christchurch has emerged as the hottest holiday destination this Autumn.

A new poll released today shows that Christchurch tops the list of holiday destinations people want to spend their Easter break visiting.

The Mood of the New Zealand Traveller survey by Fly Buys/Colmar Brunton quizzed 1000 New Zealanders aged over 18 about their travel plans and found that around one in three planned on taking a holiday over Easter. The Garden City topped their list of desired locations to visit, followed by Wellington, Auckland, Queenstown and Nelson.

“It’s a fantastic result for the city and for the region,” says Christchurch & Canterbury Tourism chief executive Christine Prince.

"Canterbury is a great place to visit at any time of the year but I think it there is something magical about it in the Autumn when the leaves on the trees turn and the countryside is bathed in the red, copper and bronze hues of autumn. For people who live in places where the seasons aren’t so distinct, it’s a sight to behold," Ms Prince says.

"Autumn is also a very busy time of year in Canterbury with lots of events and festivals on that really add to the vibe of the city. We’ve got the Ellerslie International Flower Show, the New Zealand International Jazz and Blues Festival and, for the fit among us, Le Race, all taking place in March and April so there’s no shortage of things for people to do."

"This is a brilliant opportunity for people to get away and re-charge their batteries. You can have a fantastic short-break in a stand-out region without having to break the bank and it will be a holiday you remember for a lifetime," Ms Prince says.
