Auckland deserves XT assurances from Telecom
"Telecom's woes would be a lot bigger, if its Auckland customers were ever hit by widespread XT network collapses," claims an Auckland business advocate.
"Telecom has been somewhat fortunate that these problems have been largely contained to the lower South and North Islands. If Auckland was hit, it would disastrous for the company and country," says Cameron Brewer, chief executive of the Newmarket Business Association.
"Let's not forget that Auckland is the largest city, the home of commerce, has the highest usage of cell-phones per capita, is where the media’s headquarters are, and of course where Telecom is governed from.
"It seems that only by the grace of God, that the country's most populated region has not really been affected. If Auckland was hit, it wouldn't just be a major blow for individual Telecom customers, it would be a blow for the country's commercial capital.
“As well as being a negative for the New Zealand economy, a crashing of such modern-day infrastructure in our leading city would dent our international reputation. It mustn't be allowed to happen.
"Every Aucklander deserves assurance from Telecom that Auckland will not be the next area to lose service,” says Mr Brewer.
