Allied add animal feed to website

Allied add animal feed to website

Rural services firm Allied Farmers has broadened its online farm services by introducing an animal feed listing service to its MyLiveStock.co.nz site, complementing its existing online dairy, beef and sheep sales operation.

The move is timely, given farmer demand for supplementary feed builds from February to May. The website has a large member database across New Zealand and the new service will meet the needs of both buyers and sellers of feed - all in one online location.

Paul Macfie, Chief Executive of Allied Farmers Rural Limited, said “MyLivestock.co.nz has now been operating for just over two years and has been an important site for farmers nationwide to search for livestock and gauge market prices. Over that time, the site has generated over $35 million in livestock sales."

Critical to its success has been listening to and meeting the ongoing needs of farmers, who show a desire for additional farming services being available online, via a trusted party.

Whilst the new service enables ‘member to member’ listing and sale of feed without an Allied Farmers representative involved, the site is grounded on the principles of the 120 year old company - providing exceptional service and support to farmers to ensure they get maximum efficiency out of their farm.

Mr Macfie says, “It’s critical to provide farmers with easily accessible services, on and offline. MyLiveStock has expanded our livestock business across the country. New initiatives such as the addition of animal feed help support those farmer members by connecting them with providers of other farmer inputs and services.”

Unlike other websites, no commission fee is payable for feed sales. A simple listing fee of $15 (plus GST) entitles sellers to list feed for 14 days on the site, although as part of an introductory offer for a limited time listings will be free.

“We see this as providing an enhanced service to our registered members. MyLiveStock has become a focal point for farmers selling dairy, beef and sheep. Having no sales commission fee for feed will help get providers of hay, silage and maize to promote their product to a broader market – getting farmers the farm inputs they need,” Mr Macfie said.
