Let’s Wait and See…

Newmont Waihi Gold is awaiting the release of the government’s discussion document about Schedule 4 land within the Crown Minerals Act.

The government document is expected to be released for public consultation some time this month.

“Already there is much speculation about its content. We are keen to see what’s in there but let’s all wait until it is released and everyone has a chance to read and digest it before we jump to conclusions”, suggests Newmont’s external affairs manager, Kelvyn Eglinton.

“Newmont is looking forward to the opportunity to contribute to sensible and balanced public debate on the topic. As a mining company we will be one voice in the review process alongside community, conservation and governmental groups. The good thing is that New Zealanders are having this debate and therefore more people get to learn how advances in mining practices, legislation and community consultation have brought about change for the better over the last thirty or so years."

Newmont’s exploration interest is in high grade deposits in relatively low-value conservation localities that can be mined by small footprint underground methods.
