Luck of the Irish not needed for business awards
Luck of the Irish not needed for 2010 business awards
Local businesses do not need the luck of the Irish to enter the 2010 business awards, despite the array of shamrocks and leprechauns at the awards’ annual launch.
Held to coincide with St Patrick’s Day, more than 260 business people celebrated the Irish national day as well as the launch of the Westpac Enterprise North Shore Business Excellence Awards at North Harbour Stadium.
Surrounded by four leaf clovers, pots of gold, and other Irish icons, businesses were encouraged to enter this year’s awards, now in their 13th year. Potential entrants mingled with past entrants, winners, sponsors and judges while hearing about the myriad of benefits from entering.
North Shore City deputy mayor Julia Parfitt opened the evening describing the awards as the pinnacle of celebration for the North Shore business community.
“Just being in a position to enter these awards is a notable achievement,” remarked Parfitt, “You don’t need to be a large business, turn over millions of dollars, or be a global player to be successful in these awards. You just need to believe in your own achievements, be vibrant, display excellence in your own arena, and offer something special.”
Principal sponsors, Westpac and Enterprise North Shore, are eagerly anticipating the 2010 awards season.
Ian Blair, Westpac General Manager for business banking says, “Westpac is once again delighted to be associated with the awards. We’re still very much open for business, and we’ve been helping our existing and other bank customers grow their businesses. It’s very clear that business is alive and well on the North Shore with so many businesses wanting to participate in these awards. It is exciting to uncover the excellent business successes in the local community.”
Enterprise North Shore chief executive Terry Hoskins says all sizes of businesses are welcome to enter as long as they have been in business for at least 12 months.
“Every business, from one man bands to global conglomerates, are welcome to enter. For the first time the awards are also open to Rodney businesses as well as North Shore businesses.
“We look forward to celebrating the abundance of excellence in our business community which is the driving force behind these awards.”
Entrants have a choice of 12 categories to enter, with all winners eligible for the Westpac Supreme Excellence Award. All entrants are also considered for the Enterprise North Shore Committed Optimist Award.
The Westpac Enterprise North Shore Business Excellence Awards launch will be followed by the entrants’ celebration at North Harbour Stadium on 6 May. See www.ens.org.nz/awards for details about all 2010 awards events.
