Opportunity for Debate on Minerals Review Welcome
Media release
22 March 2010
Opportunities for Debate on Minerals Review Welcomed.
Newmont Waihi Gold is looking forward to the opportunities for debate presented by the release of the government's public consultation document on the review of Schedule 4 of the Crown Minerals Act.
“The Schedule 4 debate has already encouraged a lot more people to talk about the issues.
We consider this is a great opportunity to showcase to New Zealanders the advances that have taken place over the last thirty years in mining practices, mining technology and community consultation,” says Newmont Waihi Gold’s external affairs manager Kelvyn Eglinton.
“Newmont is looking forward to the opportunity to contribute to sensible and balanced public debate on the topic. As a mining company we will be one voice in the review process alongside community, conservation and governmental groups. The good thing is that New Zealanders are having this debate and more people will be exposed to the new generation of mining."
Newmont’s exploration interest is in high grade deposits in relatively low-value conservation localities that can be mined by small footprint underground methods.
