MasterCard Papers - RBNZ Payment Analysis
Please find attached the February 2010 issue of the MasterCard Papers.
The latest set of numbers released by both Statistics NZ and the RBNZ tell a story of change – at least as far as the way New Zealanders are spending. In short, cardholders are making a conscious preference to use electronic transactions – just not credit cards. While we are seeing overall card transactions growing, monthly spend on credit cards remains lower today than it was 12 months ago. So while all forms of payment were affected by the global downturn, credit is recovering at a slower rate than other electronic payment options.
