Standout opportunity for businesses

Standout opportunity for businesses

Having your business assessed and benchmarked externally can be an eye-opening experience. Put aside any feelings of fear, because the feedback given when entering the Westpac Manukau Business Excellence Awards can help you build a better business.

That’s the advice given by Ron Holden of NALCO, who scooped three Awards at the Westpac Manukau Business Excellence Awards last year, including the coveted Business of the Year Supreme Award.

“NALCO certainly wasn’t squeaky clean when we won last year, but our attitude was to learn from the experience, and to build a better business from what we learnt,” says Ron. “To companies who are umming and ahhing about entering, I would encourage them to ignore the fear of being compared against other businesses. What you learn will help your business prosper.”

And NALCO certainly has prospered since its win last year. “NALCO is now viewed differently, both internally and externally,” says Ron. “Internally, the staff are very proud to be a part of NALCO’s success, and that’s raised everyone’s confidence levels significantly. The recognition externally, especially from potential customers, has had some very good outcomes for us. We have had an increasing interest in customers wanting to talk with us. And we even had a two and a half hour visit from HRH Princess Anne recently, through her involvement in the Emerging Pacific Leaders Dialogue 2010 group.”

Many other past winners and category winners of the Westpac Manukau Business Excellence Awards have gone from strength-to-strength, and include many household names. These winners include the likes of Downer EDI, Fishpond.co.nz, Metalman, Linfox Logistics, Villa Maria Estate and Rayglass Boats.
