RWC accommodation pricing talk scare
mongering
There will be plenty of moderately
priced accommodation available to both overseas visitors and
New Zealanders travelling between centres during the World
Cup, says Motel Association chief executive Michael
Baines.
"All this talk about overpriced accommodation is simply scare mongering.
"The accommodation being talked about in the media lately as charging in excess of $1000 a night is only a minute proportion of the commercial accommodation sector.
"The vast majority of operators are responsible and work within the constraints of the market
"Most of the accommodation required has already been sold through overseas companies to overseas-owned and operated hotels and cruise ships.
"For free independent travellers (FITs) there will be plenty of excellent accommodation available in motels throughout the country and it won't be over-priced.
"Moteliers value repeat custom, so there will be no gouging from us.
"For 90% of the FIT visitors there will be plenty of choice of type and quality of accommodation.
"This will keep prices in check.
"The market will decide."
