Strong demand for dental tourism

Strong demand for dental tourism as Kiwis realise Thai dentists are American trained

North Harbour Corporate Travel today launched its dental travel division on the back of increasing inquiry for cheaper alternatives to dental care in New Zealand.

Managing Director Richard Trowbridge said it was a no brainer for many who end up enjoying a holiday in the warn Northern Hemisphere summer, while getting urgent dental work done.

“Clients tell us that very often the dental care is done for a third of the price they were quoted by local dentists. Dental clinics in Thailand are state of the art, and most of the dentists there are American trained.

“Dentistry in Thailand is nothing new to Northern Europeans and the Thai have a reputation as leaders in the dental field. Dentistry is an export industry over there, and combines well with the tourism industry.

“We just recently had a client who was quoted more than $3,500 for two caps by a New Zealand dentist. He could have had that done in Thailand, and enjoyed a seven night all inclusive package holiday for him, and his wife, in Thailand – that’s airfares, taxes and hotel included.”

Mr Trowbridge said that if it’s big dental work, a holiday in the sun is the perfect way to recuperate.

“We expect this product will appeal to middle-class, 40 plus regular New Zealanders who typically need the dental work but who find that local prices are just beyond their budget. We have researched our market and we’re very confident about our product.”
